Venus Williams: The Tennis Star
Venus Ebony Starr Williams or more commonly Venus Williams is a famous professional tennis player from the US. She was born in 1980. She had been ranked as World Number One thrice in singles and once in doubles. Her current ranking is 16 as per March 2015 in singles and 128 as per March, 2015 as doubles. She had been the first ever African-American woman to be on the World Ranking one in the time of Open Era. She is the elder sister of another tennis star Serena Williams.
Venus started to play when she was young along with her sister Serena. Even though, initially she started coaching with Rick Macci in his academy of tennis, later they were home trained by their father. She had made her professional debut in 1994 when she was just 14 years of age. She has her career studded with various championships and medals. She was the winner of all the four Grand Slams; Wimbledon, French Open, Australian Open and US Open. She had also won Olympic Gold Medals once in Singles and two times in doubles.
Venus had played opposite her sister in 25 matches till date and had won 11 of them. She has the record of the fastest serve in three Grand Slams out of four she had appeared. She is an extremely powerful baseliner. She is efficiently equipped with playing a game that has been in attacking all court. She also fought for the good cause of gender equality in the game and their prize money.
